Welcome - Math Blog!

Welcome to my Mathematics Educational Blog. This professional blog is dedicated to the use of blogging in the Mathematics classroom. This is my first professional blog so please feel free to share any tips that you may have acquired while creating your blog. I would love to hear about how you integrated blogging into your curriculum and the advantages/disadvantages that accompany doing so.

As a first time blogger, I am trying to identify how to incorporate blogging into my mathematics class and the benefits and drawbacks of doing so. I have had the opportunity to view several blogs online and have found it to be a useful source for educators to share comments, reflections, and ideas with other professionals. I did have a hard time finding information in regards to using blogs within a classroom setting. Please share your experiences!

Nice job setting up the blog, Jodi! I hope you find and share some cool ways to use Blogs in your Math teaching.

May I have your permission to put that EduBlog Insights link that you shared on Brian's blog into the Blackboard External Links? It's a great site!

Have a good evening!

Hi Jodi:

I have a question for you. I think this site may be filtered out of our system at school. That may be a general problem for schoolteachers. Do you think that will be a problem for you as well?

Talk to you later.

Hey Lori! Since I have been working at the Cyber School, I have not found that many sites are filtered out. I may find a similar issue at my new job at Southmoreland but I won't know until I start in August! Sorry I couldn't be of more help with your question!

I really like your blog. Your wedding photos are very nice. Where did you get married?

In your response to my Blog, my students do not have study halls, but they do have pull-out time. I am not sure I will be able to add Blogs to my classes this year, even though I would like to so.

I am thinking of starting a computer club for my 5th graders this year. If I get this up and running, I will introduce Blog to the kids if the district give me permission.

I am looking forward to Blogging with you over the next few weeks.

Jodi, I am sorry that I called you Lori.

Hey Shantal! We got married at a small church in Jumonville near Uniontown, PA. Our reception was at a place called the Jewish Community Center, also in Uniontown.

I think the computer club idea that you mentioned is wonderful! Does your district have a lab that you could use to house all of the students so they could use blogs, wikis, etc?

Jodi:

The elementary school where I teach has two labs side by side with a connecting door. I have access to 62 computers at the same time. I am very fortunate with the access I have to technology. The district I work for is real big on technology.

Hi Jodi! Your blog looks great. You must have had a beautiful wedding too. I find it so interesting that you worked at a charter cyber school, is it difficult to keep students accountable for their work?

Hey Steph! It was actually very easy to keep track of work. We used BlackBoard so we could see when they posted the assignment and they could check to make sure we received it. Students were given different types of assignments; some were computer checked while others required them to do paper/pencil work and scan their work in. I actually think it is probably easier to keep track of students work using this system!
